   Nintendogs Handling Dogs

Nintendogs has seen largely successful releases throughout the world and has extremely positive feedback from critics everywhere. Undoubtedly, this is due to the innovativeness of the game, particularly in how it handles the different breeds of dogs and the fun, entertaining system by which players can go about handling them, raising them, and obtaining new dogs. This system will be explained in greater detail here.

When players first load up the game, the player is brought to a kennel to select his or her very own dog. Depending on whether you own the Japanese or North American/European edition of the game (and then depending on which version you have purchased), you select your new dog from one of five or six different breeds (breeds are explained in a separate article). When you have selected your breed of choice, players then are given the opportunity to choose from one of three different dogs in that breed varying in color, personality, gender, etc. Players can then customize and name their new found friend.

More dogs may be purchased from the kennel at later points throughout the game. As the player accumulates funds, the player can revisit the kennel and is allowed to own up to eight dogs at a time. However, it is important to note that players can only actually have three dogs at his or her home at any given time, and the other dogs must be held in the “Dog Hotel” and cannot be interacted with until switched in for one of the three dogs. If the player fills up the full amount of eight dogs but still wants to purchase an additional dog, the player may do so by “donating” a dog away (an irreversible action, so choose carefully) and then visiting the kennel to select a new pet.
